Located in Chestertown, Md., the Kent County Sheriff's Office offers services for the protection of residents lives and property, as well as the deterrence, detection and investigation of criminal activities. It is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The agency is responsible for serving legal papers at the direction of the district and circuit courts of the county, providing security for circuit courts and enforcing courts' orders. The Kent County Sheriff's Office has a narcotics enforcement team that handles issues related to drug enforcement through surveillance, intelligence and controlled buys, as well as coordinates with state, regional and federal authorities. It also operates a community policing unit that maintains relationships with community organizations and supports a variety of outreach programs for crime prevention.
