Calvert County Public Schools, based in Prince Frederick, Md., operates elementary, middle and high schools. All the elementary schools have kindergarten through five programs, including the basic subjects, as well as programs for the academically talented and those with handicapped conditions. A prekindergarten program is offered in several schools. The middle schools are organized to aid pupils in their transition from childhood to adolescence. Basic skills programs are continued with advanced programs, including French, Spanish and algebra. The senior schools offer vocational-technical courses, advanced placement, foreign language and special needs. In addition, they offer a Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp and a foreign exchange program. The elementary and middle schools have computer-assisted instruction laboratories. The computer-assisted program affords each pupil an opportunity to work in the laboratory on either reading or mathematics or both. High school computer laboratories are used for programming and applications instruction.
