History
Burkes' originated by the luck of a Baltimore local named Fred, who was at the race track one day and decided to place a bet on a long shot, the Jocky's name was Johnny Burke', Fred said, if Johnny brings this horse in I will buy a bar on the corner of Light and Lombard Street and name it Burkes. Hence, Burkes' was established in 1934 from the luck of a horse race. The Restaurant and Bar today strives to maintain the history and charm of Old Baltimore with both its decor and menu, as a Baltimore local favorite who welcomes out of town guests as our own.
