Founded in 1924, American Zoo and Aquarium Association is a nonprofit organization working for the advancement of zoos and aquariums in the areas of conservation, education, science and recreation. The association s accredited members are zoos and aquariums throughout North America, ranging from 5-acre zoos to 322,000 square-foot aquariums and 3,000-acre wildlife centers. Its members offer a rich array of animal and habitat displays for visitors. AZA accredited zoos vary widely, ranging from drive-through African safaris to walk-through habitats of North American species. In addition to zoo and aquarium facilities, AZAA s members include commercial enterprises that offer products and services to support zoos and aquariums and nonprofit facilities that are not open to the public, but working for the health and well-being of animals.
