Founded in 1902, the American Urological Association is a professional organization for the advancement of urologic patient care. It employs more than 15,000 people and offers a wide range of services, such as publications, research, annual meeting, continuing medical education and the formulation of health policy. The association is governed by a board of directors that includes officers, section representatives and a group of nonvoting consultants. Located in Linthicum, Md., the association operates an award program to provide young urology faculty with an international perspective on urologic medicine. It also operates a scholar program that allows one urologist scholar from an underserved country to visit the United States for observing urologic surgeries and procedures, and attending clinics and staff activities.
