The American Institute of Physics is a membership corporation that was chartered in New York State in 1931. The organization was founded to promote the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics and its application to human welfare. The American Institute of Physics has a mission to serve physics, astronomy and related fields of science and technology. The organization does this by serving its member societies and their associates, individual scientists, educators, and research and development leaders, as well as the public. The American Institute of Physics provides a variety of programs, services and publications, such as exhibits, magazines, journals, and news and media offerings. The American Institute of Physics maintains its headquarters in College Park, Md.
