The Allegany County Department of Social Services encourages, strengthens, protects and preserves families in the county. The department offers medical, energy, cash and food assistance programs. Its Child Support Enforcement Program helps to raise the standard of living for children by enforcing their right to support from their parents. The Allegany County Department of Social Services Emergency Food Assistance Program distributes federal surplus food to emergency food pantries and needy households. The program operates in a partnership with local governments and community organizations. It serves over 300 emergency food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters with more than four million pounds of commodities every year.
