Advanced BioScience Laboratories began as Bionetics Research Laboratories, which was established in 1961 to conduct biomedical contract research. In 1968, Bionetics was acquired by Litton Industries and became Litton Bionetics. The company was awarded the initial National Cancer Institute (NCI) contract in 1972 to convert what was then the Fort Detrick Biological Warfare Facilities into what became the NCI-Frederick Cancer Research and Development Center, and to establish the technical and scientific programs at the site. Advanced BioScience Laboratories is a wholly owned subsidiary of bioM rieux.
