Turrets Seaside Garden is a stunning 4000-square-foot garden located at College of the Atlantic in Harbor, ME. Restored by Eamonn Hutton, a former student, the garden features a formal bedded out pattern with a color scheme of pinks, purples, and blue-grey tones. With a sunken and secluded atmosphere, the garden offers a peaceful retreat with a large granite bench overlooking Frenchman Bay and the historic Turrets.
COA Gardens also include the Community Garden, Newlin Gardens, Beatrix Farrand Garden, and the Sunken Garden. The Community Garden, established in the early days of COA, provides organic produce to the campus and the wider Mount Desert Island community. The Newlin Gardens, created in honor of Elizabeth Battles Newlin, offer a beautiful space for quiet study and reflection. The Beatrix Farrand Garden showcases the skill of the celebrated garden designer with its rock walled rooms and original rose bushes. Lastly, the Sunken Garden, restored by COA students, features brick pathways, terraced retaining walls, and a variety of ornamental shrubs and flowers.
