Established in 1860, the South Portland Fire Department provides fire suppression and prevention and emergency medical services. It serves an area of more than 12 square miles with over 23,500 residents. The department is comprised of nearly 130 full-time and paid on-call members. The South Portland Fire Department is responsible for emergency fire and hazardous materials response, communication and dispatch, and civil emergency management and planning. It also offers fire safety consultation and provides fire and arson determination and investigation, as well as conducts public education programs. The department houses engines, ladders, trucks, and rescue vans and ambulances. The South Portland Fire Department is located in South Portland, Maine.
