In November 1961, John "Jack" O'Donnell opened his own consulting business offering municipal planning services, plus zoning, general, and tax mapping. Jack graduated from Dartmouth in 1943 and received his Masters Degree from Yale School of Forestry in 1948. He came to Maine to work on timberland management in the North Woods. His background in surveying and mapping led to work in many different parts of Maine. Jack and his wife, Jacqueline, raised their family in Auburn, Maine where Jack was an active supporter of Boy Scouts, Auburn Suburban Little League and the Exchange Club. He was a Charter Member of the Maine Society of Land Surveyors, who awarded him a Life Membership in 1992. After handing over the day to day business operations to John E. O'Donnell III in 1990, Jack continued to work in semi-retirement up until he officially retired in 2003. Serving New England communities since 1961, O'Donnell & Associates provides customized services focused on municipal assessment. In the early years, Jack O'Donnell offered planning services and specialty map development, while also producing tax assessors' maps. By the mid-eighties, the company had completed 125 original tax map programs. In 1977, O'Donnell & Associates expanded its capabilities to provide municipal assessment services ranging from record maintenance to a full range of assessing functions. An equalization program completed for Naples, Maine in 1978 was the first full revaluation conducted by the firm. Since then the company has finalized 65 equalization programs. Over almost fifty years, O'Donnell & Associates has consistently met its clients' needs. Long term relationships with towns result in efficiency born of familiarity with clients' procedures and patterns of development, and knowledge of individual municipal markets along with regional trends.
