The Department of Health and Human Services of the state of Maine is a public agency that provides social and health care services for families, children, teenagers, adults and elders. It offers services for adult mental health, adults with cognitive and physical disabilities, substance abuse and integrated access and support. In addition, the Department of Health and Human Services offers financial management and licensing and regulatory services. The department operates the Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center, Elizabeth Levinson Center and Riverview Psychiatric Center. It works in association with community groups, religious organizations, private providers and other government agencies. The Department of Health and Human Services also offers adoption, foster parenting and child protection services.
