Central Maine Medical Center, founded in 1891, serves all of central and western Maine as an integrated network of health care services that includes inpatient acute and emergency care, outpatient care, maternity and pediatric services, comprehensive cancer treatment, comprehensive and surgical services. As a tertiary health care center it offers a host of services, including cardiac surgery and comprehensive cancer care. The center supports a designated trauma center and LifeFlight of Maine's Lewiston base. Central Maine also supports a number of primary care and specialty care practices for patients of all ages. The center s acute care facilities include Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Bridgton Hospital and Rumford Hospital. Together these three hospitals serve a region stretching eastward from northeastern New Hampshire to Maine's Kennebec County, and south from the Rangeley Lakes area to the communities of northern Cumberland County.
