ABOUT SYSTEMSince its formation in 1974, the University of Louisiana System, one of the nation's twenty largest public systems of higher education, has provided access to higher education through its eight universities located throughout the state. Our universities enroll about 80, 000 students of all ages and backgrounds, and offer over 600 academic degree programs. Today, we continue to offer courses on our campuses, and also through the newest distance learning technologies. We are working hard to meet the changing needs of students, offering more courses on-line and through compressed video. Our universities and their designated unique areas of excellence are recognized nationally for first-rate education, cutting-edge research, and committed public service. The universities will continue to play a vital role in the lives of Louisianans and in the economic and social growth of the state. They train students to be future leaders, help develop the state's workforce, conduct important research on solving problems confronting our state, provide cultural events for their local communities, advise small businesses, and otherwise serve Louisiana. We are committed to providing cost-effective, high-quality educational opportunities for the citizens of Louisiana. The students, faculty, staff, researchers, and administrators are working hard to continue the University of Louisiana System's tradition of academic excellence. We invite you to join our team.
