Founded in 1960, The Blood Center is a nonprofit community service organization comprising community leaders and hospital representatives. It provides various services, including supply of blood, blood components and plasma derivatives to hospitals. The center is licensed by the United States Food and Drug Administration, and is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks. It offers a wide range of direct medical services, including diagnostics, therapy, and plasma and red cell exchanges, and it also provides technical support for blood banking professionals. The organization is headquartered in New Orleans, and is an affiliate of America's Blood Centers, a network of community-based blood providers that supplies volunteer donor blood supply.
