The Special Education Department provides a range of educational and extracurricular opportunities to students with autism and hearing and visual disabilities. It serves students in prekindergarten through grade 12. The department offers speech and language diagnostics and assistive technology programs. The Special Education Department maintains a staff of pupil appraisal, transition and curriculum coordinators, as well as speech and language facilitators, curriculum specialists and clerical personnel. The department also employs social workers, educational diagnosticians, psychologists and occupational therapists. Its intervention program includes intervention strategies and data analysis. The Special Education Department is a part of the Tangipahoa Parish School System, which operates several elementary, middle and high schools in Louisiana. The department is located in Hammond, La.
