The Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory is a part of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections. Founded in 1937, the laboratory is responsible for assisting local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in the investigation of criminal activities. It provides scientific analytical and experts assistance in solving various types of criminal incidents. The Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory also serves judicial agencies of the swift and efficient prosecution of criminal cases and investigations. The laboratory has received accreditation from the American Society of Crime Lab Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB). The Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory consists of various units, including DNA, toxicology, drug analysis and blood alcohol testing.
