Founded in 1946, the Louisiana School Employees' Retirement System is a state department that operates under the government of the city of Baton Rouge, La. The department offers benefit calculation, retirement planning, asset allocation and legislative issue handling services. The Louisiana School Employees' Retirement System s operations are financed through member and employer contributions as well as investment earnings on such contributions. The department s members include the non-instructional staff of Louisiana's public school system, such as bus drivers, janitors, custodians and maintenance employees. It serves more than 25,000 members. In addition, the Louisiana School Employees' Retirement System provides retirement plans, such as the Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP) and Initial Benefit Retirement Plan (IBRP).
