The Louisiana Department of Social Services is responsible for developing and providing social services and improving social conditions for the citizens of Louisiana. The department is also responsible for rehabilitating persons with disabilities. The department offers adoption and foster parenting-related services, protective services for adults and children, cash and emergency assistance and child support services. The Louisiana Department of Social Services also provides numerous independent living services that include counseling, mobility training, personal assistance, physical rehabilitation, and individual and group social and recreational services. It provides temporary assistance, including money for medical care, food, clothing and transportation to U.S. citizens returning from abroad.
