The Academy is housed in a series of buildings occupying the 5200 block of Magazine Street. Over the years the buildings have grown to accommodate an expanding student body. The facilities, which are fully air conditioned, contain our sculpture department, many painting studios for life, still life, portrait and abstract painting, drawing, watercolor and digital photography lab. They also house two exhibition galleries and a frame shop. There is off street parking and a security guard at night. The colorful flags that flutter from the balcony of the classic nineteenth century rose-pink plantation house give a clue to the energy and activity inside. For the 300 students who come to class here every week, color is passion. So are drawing and painting. There are no admission requirements and no grades. The New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts is designed for those who love art, want instruction in the classical tradition--and are ready to see their world in an entirely new light.
