The Natchitotches Police Department s purpose is to protect residents lives and property within the corporate limits of the city of Natchitoches, La. The department s goal is to ensure residents get the protection they deserve and want and have a peaceful society for future generations. The department has more than 70 frontline officers, 10-plus office personnel, nearly 30 reserve officers, four animal control officers and two lake patrolmen. Patrol officers work in 12-hour shifts. There are four patrol shifts to ensure someone is on duty 24 hours a day. The department is led by a chief of police and two assistants. The Natchitotches Police Department received approximately $40,000 in 2005 Louisiana Highway Safety Commission funds to provide overtime protection to citizens against motorists who are driving intoxicated, running red lights and driving without the use of occupant protection.
