HistoryCIELO's founders have a combined 30 years of experience working with Latino immigrant populations in various capacities all over the United States. We decided to open this business after witnessing firsthand the lack of communication and educational resources that are available to the English-speaking native-born, and Spanish-speaking immigrant populations in the GNO area. Existing language education agencies focus on teaching English to immigrants outside of, and unrelated to, their working lives. We believe that a more effective technique is to take the language classes to the workplace in order to better facilitate students' schedules and tailor the lessons to real-life situations.SpecialtiesThe Center for Immigrant Education of Louisiana, LLC (CIELO) is a social enterprise that uses profits from its onsite, workplace language courses to fund low-cost ESL and adult education classes at non-profits in the Greater New Orleans Area. CIELO seeks to address the educational and job readiness needs of the Latino immigrant population in the GNO area by providing language classes and integrated workforce development workshops to assist them in their efforts to participate and engage in a constructive way with the greater community. A 2012 study by the Greater New Orleans Community Data Center shows that the income disparities among the African American, Hispanic and white populations in New Orleans exist due to the differences in educational attainment.
