Pacific Precision Laboratories, Inc ( formerly, JMAR Precision Systems, Inc ) was founded in 1985 with the goal to design and manufacture precision electromechanical platforms and custom engineered systems for the disk drive industry. In later years, PPL introduced Optical Inspection Systems with their proprietary Video-CMM software for the microelectronics and disk drive industries. In 1993, the company was acquired by JMAR Industries, Inc ( NASDAQ: JMAR ) and the name was changed to JMAR Precision Systems, Inc The following year the company expanded to the manufacturing of Excimer laser processing systems. In 1995 and 1996 respectively, the Mirage table-top system and Disk Inspection System were introduced. The company continued to strengthen its relationship with its customers in producing custom engineered systems and solutions. New products introduced in 1999 include Lumina and VCMM-II . In July of 2003, the company was spun off from JMAR Technologies, Inc and was acquired by a private investment group. In late 2004, the company reverted its name back to the original name of Pacific Precision Laboratories, Inc or PPLI. Today PPLI is a world class producer of optical inspection systems, precision stages, motion control, & motion platforms, custom engineered systems, and precision electromechanical contract manufacturing solutions. The company supports its diverse worldwide customer base from the primary facility in Chatsworth, California, which includes a dedicated clean room for precision assembly for microelectronics. PPL BUSINESS FOUNDATION PPLI offers design and engineering expertise for precision applications, with an excellent reputation for design and integration of complex systems. JMAR-PSI produces high-quality modular products adaptable to custom system applications. PPL designs, builds, and performs installations worldwide for: IBM, Intel Corp., Litton, Medtronics, Quantum, Read Rite, Seagate, FEI, Lexmark International Inc, Gilette Company, Xerox Corp., Affymetrix, RF Micro Devices, Lucent, Innovex, Polymer Flip Chip, Advanced Reproductions and Laser Light.
