History
The Metairie/New Orleans Campus is the first campus of Celebration Church, which officially began in 1989 when Lead Pastor Dennis Watson had a vision from God to plant a church where God is met, Love is felt, and Lives are changed. At that time, a small group of believers was meeting in the John Curtis Lower School gym and that's where Celebration Church was born. Although the congregation was small at first, it gradually grew to a much larger congregation as the church moved to various bigger facilities throughout the years. Since August 2005 (two weeks before Hurricane Katrina), Celebration Church acquired its current facility at 2001 Airline Drive by merging with Crescent City Baptist Church. Despite the storm, the congregation has been successful in growing to thousands of faithful believers on a weekly basis.
Specialties
Celebrate Recovery is a biblical and balanced program that helps us overcome our hurts, hang-ups, and habits. It is based on the actual words of Jesus rather than psychological theory. 25 years ago, Saddleback Church launched Celebrate Recovery with 43 people. It was designed as a program to help those struggling with hurts, habits and hang-ups by showing them the loving power of Jesus Christ through a recovery process. Celebrate Recovery has helped more than 17000 people at Saddleback, attracting over 70% of its members from outside the church. Eighty-five percent of the people who go through the program stay with the church and nearly half serve as church volunteers.
