HistoryThe Uptown Shepherd's Center began as a central location for older adults in search of daily activities to rebuild social connections, remain active in the community, and retain their dignity as they aged. In 1977 several ecumenical ministers representing different area churches and under the guidance of the New Orleans Council on Aging formed the Uptown Area Senior Adult Ministry, a partnership to serve seniors in the Uptown neighborhood. Today, the Uptown Shepherd's Center serves socially or physically active people aged 60 and older who seek fellowship or resources. Through four major program areas, Group Health & Wellness, Individual Case Management, Transportation, and Volunteer Opportunities, the Uptown Shepherd's Center strives to meet its mission: to be a haven of opportunity for seniors in the community to continue independent, healthy, and meaningful lives.SpecialtiesFellowship and resources for adults aged 60 and older who want to stay physically OR socially active!
