History
After Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005, local people who stayed or returned home shortly thereafter had no where to shop for any type of goods, especially fresh goods and produce, since everything was closed. A small group of dedicated citizens (volunteers) got together and decided now was the time to open the Farmers' Market as opposed to waiting til April of 2006, which was the plan. Everyone took a desired product/item and found a vendor as close as possible to set up a booth. On October 22, 2005, the Gretna Farmers' Market made its debut, and has since operated every Saturday, rain or shine, since, with the exception of the weekend of Gretna Heritage Festival. We are proud to say we have loyal an valued patrons, special events, wonderful vendors and so much more! It is truly a community and volunteer effort, run by people who want to have healthy options, while socializing each Saturday!
