The Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) is a part of the Department of Agriculture s Marketing and Regulatory Programs. GIPSA facilitates the marketing of livestock, poultry, meat, cereals and related agricultural products. The agency promotes competitive trading practices for the benefit of consumers and American agriculture. Its Packers and Stockyards Program (P&SP) promotes fair business practices to market livestock, meat and poultry. Through its monitoring programs, P&SP provides payment protection and guard against deceptive and fraudulent trade practices that affect the movement and price of meat animals and their products. The agency s Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS) facilitates the marketing of grain and related agricultural products by establishing standards for quality assessments and regulating handling practices.
