The Office of Community Services is operated by the Louisiana Department of Social Services. It provides the administration of social, human resource and income maintenance programs. The office provides services for the public child welfare functions of the state and administers federal grants for services that focus on the needs of citizens. The Office of Community Services adoption and foster care programs include adoption reunion registry that facilitates voluntary contact between adult adoptees, their birth parents and siblings. It provides child protection and family services, including the Emergency Shelter Grants Program (ESGP), which uses federally allocated funds to award grants to localities. The office additionally offers Leading Innovations for Family Transformation and Safety (LIFTS), which is a series of initiatives to strengthen families and to ensure the safety of children.
