Communities In Schools of the Gulf South, formerly known as Communities In Schools of Greater New Orleans, is a local affiliate of the national nonprofit organization founded by Bill Milliken over 40 years ago. Their unique model brings community resources into public schools, creating accessible and coordinated support systems for students. With a focus on building relationships and fostering a sense of belonging, CIS Gulf South has grown from serving one school to over 11,000 students across Louisiana, expanding their reach to the Capital Area and Acadiana regions.
CIS Gulf South recognizes the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion, striving to promote these values in their work. They advocate for those facing barriers due to race, religion, age, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or ability, and aim to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for their staff, board, and the students and families they serve. Through their collaborative efforts with schools, communities, and families, CIS Gulf South provides a caring network of support to help students stay in school and achieve success in life.
