The Baton Rouge Police Department provides community policing, crime prevention and law enforcement services to the city of Baton Rouge, La. It employs more than 640 sworn officers, over 40 communications officers, approximately 180 civilians and nearly 30 specialized police personnel. The department has administration, uniform patrol, operational services and criminal investigations bureaus. The Baton Rouge Police Department also has crime information, communications, narcotics, patrol, internal affairs, traffic, training, and operational and fleet management divisions. It intervenes in cases of rape, homicide, armed robbery, assault, theft, burglary, forgery, auto theft and sex crime. The Baton Rouge Police Department operates a community-based crime stopper program that encourages local citizens to provide tips and clues towards the successful solution of crimes.
