Samuel D. Carter, M.D., is an orthopedic surgeon with Norton Orthopedic Institute. He specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopy. Dr. Carter earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery. He completed a fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopy at Orthopaedic Research of Virginia, Richmond. Dr. Carter is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and holds subspecialty certification in sports medicine. In addition to sports medicine, Dr. Carter has special interests in femoroacetabular impingement, acetabular labral tears, knee ligament reconstruction, meniscus tears, cartilage restoration, partial knee replacement, patellar realignment, and arthroscopy of the hip, knee and shoulder. Dr. Carter believes in a patient-centered approach to orthopedic care. He maintains relationships with other physicians, physical therapists and athletic trainers so that he can provide a team approach to care. He currently serves as the team physician for Male High School in Louisville and as one of the team physicians for Bellarmine University.
