The Department for Public Health is responsible for the development and operation of a range of medical programs and activities for the citizens of Kentucky. Also known as DPH, the department offers prevention, detection and treatment services for patients with physical disabilities, illnesses and diseases. It provides a variety of information about breast-feeding, childhood immunization and maternity care. The Department for Public Health maintains birth, death, marriage and divorce records. In addition, the department operates a laboratory services division that specializes in various tests and medical procedures. The Department for Public Health issues licenses and permits. The department is a part of Cabinet for Health and Family Services, which is governed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
