Mary Kathryn “Katie” Alonso, APRN, is a nurse practitioner with Norton Children’s Development Center, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine. She earned her bachelor’s degree from DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana, and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana University, Indianapolis. Katie specializes in developmental-behavioral pediatrics. She has experience as a neonatal intensive care unit nurse, clinical nurse advisor, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) technician, discharge specialist and Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) trainee/fellow. She also has extensive experience working with children with special needs, including congenital anomalies and spina bifida. Katie enjoys supporting families and caring for children with special needs, developmental delay, autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Katie is a firm believer in collaboration to achieve mutual goals and enjoys teaching and learning from patients, families and her peers. She focuses on listening to patients and families, verbalizing, understanding and recognizing their needs. Katie is fluent in Spanish and enjoys working with patients and families of various cultures and backgrounds. She strives to improve access to health care in underserved communities, and encourages promoting health education and research to achieve optimal patient health outcomes.
