History
Idlewild Butterfly Farm opened in the heart of Louisville, Kentucky in the summer of 2015, but our entomologists bring years of experience in the specialized study of insects. We got our start providing beneficial insects for agricultural pest control, but our passion for the natural world led us to establish Idlewild Butterfly Farm as a commercial butterfly and insect rearing facility. A large part of our mission is education and exposure, and we welcome visitors to Idlewild so that we can share that passion with the public!

We specialize in butterflies for events and education, butterfly gardening plants and supplies, beneficial insects for yard and garden, gifts and accessories inspired by the natural world, and more! Visitors are invited to view the butterfly garden, take a tour of the insectarium, browse our selection of educational and natural products, and just take in the diverse and wonderful world of insects!
