Founded in 1933, the Council of State Governments serves the executive, judicial and legislative branches of state government through leadership education, research and information services. It is a nonprofit organization and region-based forum that fosters the exchange of insights and ideas to help state officials shape public policy. The organization offers regional, national and international opportunities to collaborate and create problem-solving partnerships. The Council of State Governments helps to bring state leaders together to share capitol ideas. It also assists to build new partnerships within government and among governing entities. The organization promotes several multistate and regional cooperative ventures. It additionally establishes links with the private sector and other civic leaders. The Council of State Governments is affiliated with the American Probation and Parole Association and the National Lieutenant Governors Association.
