Community Action Council, located in Lexington, Ky., is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting poverty in Fayette, Harrison, Bourbon and Nicholas counties in Kentucky. The organization is a member of the Community Action Partnership, a national organization that represents the interests of the more than 1,000 community action agencies throughout the United States. The council is dedicated to combating poverty by offering opportunities for low-income individuals to achieve self-sufficiency and providing services so that each community member and family is able to reach their full potential. The council works to serve the low-income population through advocacy, service delivery and community involvement. The Lexington chapter was organized by five local community activists in 1965. Its services include child development, family development, energy assistance, emergency services and housing.
