History
Founded in 1984, ACS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit No Kill adoption agency for dogs and cats. We're a privately funded, volunteer driven organization whose financial support comes solely through annual subscription memberships, donations, and adoption fees. We receive no federal, state, or local government funding. We speak for the voiceless and lead by example in our ongoing work. We provide responsible and humane treatment to our dog and cat guests until we can find them appropriate homes. Over the last ten years, we have placed over 8,000 pets into devoted and responsible homes. We are proud of our success and our sustained positive impact on our community Our Mission The Animal Care Society is a private No-Kill adoption agency whose purpose is to find new, safe, and loving forever homes for adoptable dogs and cats.
Specialties
Animal Care Soc. wants the adoption to be a permanent and loving situation for the animal and to ensure that the animal you have selected is the most suitable for you/your family. We ask that you do not take offense at our screening process, but view it as a way of ensuring the satisfaction of all parties involved. Criteria: Adopters must be at least 21 to adopt. Everyone who lives in the adopter's home must visit the animal. All adopters must provide three personal references. Applicant's dog(s) currently living in the home must visit the chosen pet. The Animal Care Society does not adopt animals as gifts. Adopters in rental homes need proof of pet policy. Proof pet deposit/rent has been paid must also be provided. The Animal Care Society verifies veterinary records on all current/all pets owned by the prospective adopter in the last 10 years. While every pet adopted from The Animal Care Society is fully vetted, the minimum cost of pet ownership easily exceeds several hundred dollars a year. We may deny an application if we feel the prospective application has not successfully demonstrated the financial ability to care for an animal. At our discretion, we may deny an application that is a first-time pet owner, if: The applicant is a college-student The applicant's home does not have a fenced yard If,we determine that the animal needs a fence yard The applicant has children under the age of five (5) years of age
