Wichita Transit is committed to meeting the needs and priorities of the citizens of Wichita with the most courteous, affordable, reliable and economical public transportation possible. Its goals are simply to provide the most cost-efficient and effective service within established budget parameters, the most convenient service possible and improve passenger amenities and technologies within available capital funding. The transit system currently operates 51 buses and 26 wheelchair lift vans on 18 fixed routes, 17 demand-response paratransit routes operated by the department and seven paratransit vans operated under a lease program with other social service agencies. Annually, WT carried more than two million passengers on its fixed route bus service and more than 320,800 disabled passengers on our paratransit vans. There are 23 administrative positions and 107 employees, which are represented by the Teamsters Union. Executive management is provided through a contract with First Transit.
