Graduated from Salina South High School in 1994 and then attended Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. Obtained Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with majors in both Law Enforcement and Corrections. Upon graduation, became a corrections deputy with the Saline County Sheriffs Office. Then attended the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center and was a certified law enforcement officer. Worked as a police officer with the Salina Police Department. Attended Washburn University School of Law and graduated with Dean's Honors in 2003. Worked at Kansas Legal Services handling divorce, child custody/support, paternity, disability, and bankruptcy cases. In 2004 was hired by the Saline County Attorney's Office. Was a prosecutor from 2004 to 2013. Prosecuted a variety of crimes: traffic, DUI, property, drug posession, drug distributions, assault, battery, aggravated battery, criminal threat, robbery, juvenile, and assorted other misdemeanors and felonies. Have written several ap pellate briefs and have argued successfully before the Kansas Court of Appeals.
