History
Taylor Drug is located in a historic corner building, right in the heart of downtown Arkansas City, that was constructed in 1884. Though the years have seen changes in the names on the building, the businesses inside have been pharmacies. The original business was named Sollitt and Swarts. Eventually, it became Long Drug, then Albert's Drug, and since 1983 it has been Taylor Drug. The business has grown and changed over the 34 years it has been owned and run by Fred Taylor. In the 1980's, the rear portion of the corner building, which has a separate address and had been a piano store, was purchased and incorporated into the business. In the 1990's, the adjacent business to the south, Kelly Gray Men's Wear at one time, was purchased and remodeled and turned into a showroom floor for home medical equipment, orthotics, and nursing uniforms. In the 2000's, the adjacent business to the south of the showroom floor was purchased for use as a warehouse and shop for equipment repair.
