Established in 1976, SOS is a nonprofit organization that provides educational and community outreach programs for children and adults suffering from domestic violence, sexual abuse and neglect. It offers services to the residents of Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris and Osage counties in Kansas. Located in Emporia, Kan., the organization operates an advocacy facility, SOS Child Advocacy Center, which specializes in the areas of child protective services, legal, law enforcement, mental health and medical care. SOS offers crisis intervention, case management, multidisciplinary investigation, in-service training, emergency shelter and treatment planning services. It additionally provides long-term care, patient referral, rehabilitation and group counseling services. The organization offers services to schools, service organizations, parent groups, religious communities and professional associations. SOS is a member of The United Way.
