History
The name Six Mile is a reference to Kansas history. The Tavern and Chop House takes its inspiration from the Six Mile House which is where members of the Kansas Red Legs (an unofficial military brigade) met in secret to plan their defense against the Missourians. It was built in 1860 as a tavern and became an important stop on the stage route from Independence to Leavenworth. It was so named because it was just six miles from the wyandotte ferry by the road, and is now one of the most fascinating buildings in the county.
