Located in Shawnee Mission, Kan., and founded in 1973 as Midwest Organ Bank, Midwest Transplant Network provides transplant and procurement services to transplant centers and hospitals. The organization also provides tissue procurement and eye banking services. Its laboratories provide services to the medical and transplant community with expertise in serology and molecular methodologies, flow cytometry and molecular diagnostics. Both laboratories are Medicare certified and accredited by the American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics. Midwest Transplant Network is a member of the United Network for Organ Sharing and Organ Procurement & Transplant Network. A board of directors, comprising physicians, administrators and other individuals, governs the organization.
