The Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) at Ascension Via Christi Hospital Pittsburg -- a unit located on the medical center's second floor -- is designed to meet the special physical and cognitive rehabilitative needs of qualified individuals who have experienced a disabling injury, illness or surgery. Our goal is to return individuals to a functional level that enables them to regain as much independence as possible, as quickly as possible. Advanced treatment programs are offered for medical conditions including -- but not limited to -- stroke, hip fractures, arthritis, amputation, neurologic disorders, and general orthopedics. Our rehabilitation program helps patients with physical impairments that limit functional abilities, a need for assistance in performing daily living functions, medical complications that cause a decline in physical function, or a recent disability. All patients admitted to the ARU receive comprehensive care from a team of trained professionals under the direction of a rehabilitation physician, who works closely with the patient's personal physician to ensure continuity of care.
