Dr. Jennifer Svetlecic is a pulmonologist and critical care physician. In addition to her practice, which includes seeing both hospital and clinic patients, since 2005 she has served as the director of Respiratory Therapy and in 2010 was selected by her peers as the chairperson of the Department of Medicine. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Svetlecic holds an appointment at the UMKC School of Medicine as an associate clinical professor of medicine and is a guest faculty member in the Cardiopulmonary Section at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. She is a volunteer with the Spelman Medical Foundation and has served as class agent for her medical school class's scholarship fundraising efforts. A native of Kansas City, Dr. Svetlecic received her undergraduate degree in biology and medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She completed a residency in internal medicine and fellowships in pulmonary and critical care medicine, all at UMKC. During her residency and fellowship she was twice awarded first place in UMKC's research competition plus three different awards from the American College of Chest Physicians for her work on complications from lung transplants. She is the author or co-author of a dozen peer-reviewed research articles and abstracts and is regularly invited to address health care practitioners on a range of subjects from chronic cough to interstitial lung disease.
