History
The Lyon County Health Department was founded in 1923 in Emporia. From its humble beginnings, it grew from providing home visits and immunizations to offering more comprehensive public and personal health services. In 1997, the health department received a grant to become a Federally Qualified Health Center - Flint Hills Community Health Center, Inc. - and offer medical, dental and behavioral health services to everyone, including individuals with insurance, Medicare, Medicaid and the uninsured. Flint Hills Community Health Center still provides health department services for Lyon County residents through a contract with the county. These services include public health, environmental health, child care licensing, WIC and emergency preparedness. In 2013, Flint Hills Community Health Center received a grant to open a new health center location in Eureka.
