Established in 1958, the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation focuses on supporting the research on the economic aspects of general practice. It helps victims of natural disasters throughout the United States and various countries worldwide. The foundation also offers several financial grant plans, including the Joint Grant Awards Program and Practice Based Research Network Stimulation Grants for long- and short-term scientific projects. It works in collaboration with several constituent chapters and chapter foundations of the American Academy of Family Physicians to provide the Family Medicine Philanthropic Consortium program, which emphasizes the improvement of health care services for individuals of all ages. Additionally, the foundation conducts student conferences and award ceremonies.
