Iowa State Patrol is a full-service law enforcement agency that preserves lives, rights and property of residents. It patrols more than 110,000 miles of state roadways that is comprised of interstates, state highways and secondary county roads. The agency employs a staff of more than 375 full-time state troopers. Iowa State Patrol focuses on enforcing motor vehicle laws. In addition to traffic responsibilities, it assists during major incidents and occurrences in Iowa, such as prison riots, labor disputes and natural disasters. The agency also operates a communication center that responds to emergency and nonemergency law enforcement, fire and medical assistance calls. Iowa State Patrol maintains a troop post in Oelwein, Iowa.
