Founded in 1956, Mark Twain Elementary School provides a range of general academic programs to more than 320 students in kindergarten through grade five. The school administers English as a Second Language and Title I programs. Its syllabus includes English, mathematics, science, social studies, language arts and music. The school also maintains a library and media center that features a collection of books and reference and instructional materials. It operates a parent-teacher association that conducts several fundraising events and programs. The school offers gifted and talented and special education programs, as well as employs a nurse and counselor. Located in Bettendorf, Iowa, Mark Twain Elementary School is a part of the Bettendorf Community School District, which governs various elementary, middle and high schools.
