The division operates a consumer affairs bureau that handles complaints and questions from the public and conducts investigations and brings action against insurance companies and agents. The Iowa Insurance Division maintains a securities bureau that administers laws that regulate and investigate the sale of securities. It is governed by the city of Des Moines in Iowa.
